Queens Borough President joins a rally aimed at saving the Rockaway Ferry

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz joined other elected officials and residents of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan on the steps of City Hall on Thursday, August 21, for a press conference and rally aimed at saving the Rockaway Ferry. Borough President Katz called on the current administration to extend the ferry service that connects the Rockaways to Manhattan and Brooklyn beyond its scheduled October 31, 2014 termination date.

The Borough President also asked that weekend runs to be added to the ferry’s schedule so data can be gathered to show the true potential of how permanent, seven-daya- week ferry service could benefit the Rockaways. Borough President Katz believes weekend service would increase the number of people who visit the Rockaways’ wonderful beaches and patronize its waterfront businesses.
