Dear Prof. Saluja,
Your editorial was timely and it showed your fearless statement of facts. There are countless episodes where the said gentleman has used his resources (money) to get his ends meet. Be it Indian banks millions or American institutions, e.g. banks, insurance companies or individuals. Corruption is rampant in India and every official is for sale be it a Minister or a secretary. I knew that PM Man Mohan Singh is honest to the core and no body can approach him. But there are many persons who can use his name and get things done.
Another tragedy is that the partners of the UPA government; be it NCP or TMC or ADMK. Their participants are indispensable and they can do whatever they want and the Chair person of INC cannot annoy them because that will lead to the fall of government. Since you mentioned the name of Aviation minister, who belongs to the NCP, chief of NCP is close friend of NY NRI. Even though Shree Vayalar Ravi is INC minister but he would not mind washing his hand in flowing Ganga Ji. The President of India knew about the NY-NRI but she can only ask for investigation but cannot take any action because Power lies with PM and Chair person of INC. And they have to save their government.
In USA GOI has very competent lobby to assist the US-Indo deal. No NRI needs to help and neither did any body do so. He is only interested in dealing with his own problems in USA. Former US President pardoned a notorious person Mr. Richards. And if Chhatwal helped him or his wife it is merely to aid solve his knotty problems. It was intervention by former president who helped him get free from Indian CBI. All of this was in news media.
In my humble opinion there are four powers in America, Judiciary, Executive, Legislative and Media. It was media that impeached President Nixon. If media is strong and investigative, it can do wonders. You have shown guts and it is most appreciated.
