NEW YORK CITY (TIP): New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to hire Karen Hinton, a longtime communications executive and strategist, as his new press secretary, according to information trickling in from people familiar with the matter.

Ms. Hinton will be in charge of the day-to-day dealings of the mayor’s office with the news media. The hire would fill a position that has been open for several months.

Ms. Hinton, 56, declined to comment. Phil Walzak, a spokesman for the mayor, too, declined to comment and said a formal announcement on the job is coming next month.

She is a longtime Democratic aide who worked for the Clinton administration and Mercury Public Affairs, a strategy firm in New York. She owns Hinton Communications, a private firm.

Ms. Hinton is married to Howard Glaser, a former top aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
